Pebbles of Peace (formerly Solidarity in Service) is a partnership between a group of social outreach agencies and a group of interfaith congregations in Milwaukee who believe in peacemaking. Together, we empower high school youth to design and implement projects that address the issues related to violence.
Boulders of Violence are so overwhelming. Gangs. Drive-by shootings. Bullying. Rape. Murder. How can one peaceful pebble make a difference? By organizing with others and uniting our efforts! Pebbles of peace can and do outweigh boulders of violence.
Each year, we start off with an Autumn youth forum that gathers high school students from different churches, schools and organizations and gives them an opportunity to learn about violence issues and talk about possible solutions. Then each group designs a project to address violence in some way. Then we re-gather for a springtime celebration at the House of Peace, with display boards and pictures that tell the story of what everyone did and how we learned. This event is open to the public.
