Thomas More Students Reflect on Racism

After attending Pebbles of Peace, these Thomas More High School students shared with us their reflections about racism.

I think that racism is a mixture of ignorance and fear. Until we find a way to brek the deep-rooted cultural stereotypes, that we hold, and eradicated some of the blind fear that clouds our perceptions of people, I don’t think that we will ever be able to effectively rid our society of racism.

Discrimination is happening anywhere you go and we need to change that. It is not a good example to the younger youth because they will think it is OK to do. That’s why I am here in Pebbles of Peace – to make life changed and become a leader to the kids that don’t know what’s going on.

Racism is so deeply rooted in our society that it is going to take a lot of time and work to stop it.  Programs like this one take us one step closer to seeing others for who they are.

Racism is an unjust vision conceived from ignorance. The reason people are racist is because they are afraid of what they do not understand.
