The Teen Leaders presented “Hope is Something You Do” to a group of middle school youth from St. William in Waukesha on January 24th.
We had a lot of fun, even though plenty of learning took place that day!
Why should your group of middle school youth (and parents, if possible!) come to a Hope is Something You Do Workshop?
Here is a “Top Ten List” of reasons…
#10. You meet a really great group of high school teenagers!
#9. You get to do fun things and enjoy yourselves for a productive Saturday!
#8. You learn about the way you yourself tend to react in a conflict. This will help you in the future when you are trying to resolve an issue or solve a problem you have with someone in your family, at school, or at your job.
#7. You get to practice the critical skills we teach you, “Careful Listening” and “Careful Talking,” so you know how to approach people when you are in a conflict, and you learn how to get to a “win-win” solution.
#6. You learn that a conflict is only obvious to you when “What you want gets in the way of what I want!”
#5. You get to eat some great food because Miss Shirley at House of Peace is a great cook!
#4. You understand the four types of conflict and you discover that figuring out what type of conflict you are dealing with will help you identify who you need to negotiate with.
#3. You realize that conflicts generally have only three basic causes… and the way you frame your conflict will help you find a solution to that conflict.
#2. You figure out how children fighting over a teddy bear is similar to two countries waging war. And both conflicts are similar to you having an argument with your parents, friends, or teachers. Once you learn how to negotiate, you can make progress with all types of conflicts.
And the #1 reason for coming to Hope is Something You Do?
You become a peacemaker!
