Almost fifty people gathered at Cardinal Stritch University to hear presentations from young people about their projects, which were designed five months ago, at the “Pebbles of Peace Outweighing Boulders of Violence” youth forum in November of 2009.
Students from Messmer High School spoke about their “Beautification Project,” and youth people from the Milwaukee Christian Center talked about “Youth Stereotypes.” The House of Peace Teen Leaders gave a presentation about their “Mentor-Buddy program.”
On hand were Elana Kahn-Oren, editor in chief of Milwaukee Jewish Chronicle, and Barb Pollack from Elizabeth Ann Brinn Foundation, to give certificates to the youth presenters.
In addition to the presentations were various activities related to peace and justice. For example, participants could fold Oragami peace cranes, decorate Lakota peace rocks, write statements about their beliefs, and play a “cups” game that reinforces teamwork and cooperation.
The next Pebbles youth forum is scheduled for November 10, 2010 at Cardinal Stritch University.
