Tomorrow's Present Training Resources

Dr. Calderone has produced leadership manuals and videotapes with the assistance of grants from Lilly and from the Valparaiso Project on the Education and Formation of People in Faith.

These are currently available:
Pebbles of Peace 1. Pebbles of Peace (Previously known as "Solidarity in Service")
(Handbook, video, and CD) Bilingual Resource: English/Spanish
"Inspire hope by building partnerships to eradicate violence" is the mission statement for this community initiative, done in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the House of Peace. Its guiding image is a balance scale demonstrating that many small pebbles of peace can outweigh large boulders of violence. This resource will show you what can happen when churches, schools and community outreach agencies join together, empowering high school youth to find their own ways to address violence. The video will help you motivate a planning team, the binder will give you a clear picture of how our plan unfolded, and the CD will help you educate others about what a youth forum is, how to organize one, and how it is based on the research regarding transformational ministry. (This resource is currently available for $45.00.)

Sons & Daughters of Abraham: Milwaukee Interfaith Youth Forum 2. Sons & Daughters of Abraham: Milwaukee Interfaith Youth Forum
(Handbook and video)
Eighteen young people – six Jews, six Christians, and six Muslims – were trained to present to their peers a day-long youth forum about the similarities and differences among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Their goal was "to strengthen interfaith understanding in order to reduce misinformation and promote peaceful relationships among all people." They facilitated the day, made presentations, and led small group discussions. Their learning was marvelous, and their one-day forum led to a series of interfaith events and relationships that are still ongoing. This handbook and video offers a seven-step process for how to train high school youth (as well as your adult team) to begin a similar movement in your community.
(This resource is currently available for $40.00.)

Catholic Leadership Youth Forum: Middle School and Junior High Teens 3. Catholic Leadership Youth Forum: Middle School and Junior High Teens
(Handbook and video)
This video gives an overview of a Middle School and Junior High event – a Catholic leadership youth forum – which brings together young people from different Catholic schools and parishes, and helps them spread excitement for being Catholic. They meet first in mixed groups to learn from each other and share ideas, and then later with their "back home" groups in order to design events, projects or activities that will create more energy and enthusiasm around being involved in the mission and ministries of the Catholic church. The handbook gives step-by-step information and resources for creating your own Catholic leadership youth forum for young people in middle school and junior high grades.
(This resource is currently available for $30.00.)

Tomorrow's Present: The Research Summary 4. Tomorrow's Present: The Research Summary
(Video and Resource Packet folder)
In Part 1 of this video, teenagers tell the story of Tomorrow's Present. In Part 2, teenagers talk about leadership, learning, and service in three segments. The Tomorrow's Present Resource Packet includes a hand-out that can be used to facilitate the reflection and discussion of a group of youth and adult leaders watching Part 2 in order to evaluate their own youth ministry programming, with regards to its leadership, learning, and service opportunities. The Resource Packet also summarizes the key findings of the three-year research study, "The impact of the Tomorrow's Present Leadership Training project on the self-perception of Catholic teenagers as present and future leaders of the Catholic church."
(This resource is currently available for $30.00.)

Note: A user-friendly version of this research is available in a book called, Changing Lives: Transformational Ministry and Today's Teens. Originally published by Pflaum, it is now only available through the House of Peace. This book includes a CD that gives a visual and auditory overview of the Transformational Ministry model, which surfaced as a result of the research on the youth originally involved in Tomorrow's Present. (This book was originally priced at $21.95. It is currently available for $15.00.)

5. Workshops from the original Tomorrow's Present Project
There were three workshops originally offered by teams of young people during the three-year Tomorrow's Present research project. Each resource includes a training video and binder. At this time, they can be back-ordered.
