House of Peace Teen Leaders

Scholars

Scholars receive assistance toward school tuition at the Milwaukee Catholic high school of their choice. They have a grade point average requirement, as well as a service component beyond their hours at the House of Peace. If you would like to apply to be a Teen Leader Scholar, contact the House of Peace (414-933-1300) and they will send you an application form. Forms are usually available in March, and due in April. The interview process usually takes place during May. Click here to see four Teen Leader Scholars and find out what they think about the Teen Leader Program.

Support Teens

Support Teens do not receive scholarship assistance toward a Catholic high school tuition.  Either they attend public school, or they are on a waiting list for a scholarship.

At this time, the House of Peace can only afford ten scholarships a year.

If you are interested in providing the funds for an additional Catholic high school scholarship, please contact Lisa, The director of youth leadership.

Both types of Teen Leaders – Support Teens and Teen Scholars – receive support money in the form of stipends to assist them and their families.

Reflections on Being a Teen Leader

House of Peace Teen LeaderBeing a Teen Leader at the House of Peace has made a difference in my life.

I get the chance to work with a great group of teenagers who are dedicated to the program. They come from different backgrounds and have different lives, but everyone is treated with hospitality. They challenge me to take responsibility in my life.

I am lucky to have them in my life, and am happy to have adults to work with as well.

House of Peace Teen LeaderBeing a House of Peace teen leader has been a wonderful experience for me.

I have been very blessed to learn how to peacefully and effectively resolve conflicts in my life.

At times, I can be a very passive person, but I have learned how to clearly convey my feelings and listen well – even to a person I am in conflict with. It has helped me to communicate more effectively.  I have had the privilege of learning from our adult leaders who have taught and coached us each month.

I’ve been very lucky to connect with really amazing people – the other Teen Leaders.  They are very fun,

and so wonderful to be with.

I am so grateful to have been part of this ministry.

The best part of the Teen Leader program at the House of Peace is the retreat. We spend a day and a night learning leadership skills, getting to know each other better and having fun. There is nothing boring about being a Teen Leader at the House of Peace.

House of Peace Teen LeaderI have recently done some reflection on being a Teen Leader at the House of Peace. I realized that it

has changed my life. I have learned to communicate, to solve problems and to manage conflicts without using any form of violence.  If we all do our part to bring about peace in the world,

then everyone gets to live their lives in the fullest way possible.

Everyone deserves that chance.

I know I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of the House of Peace and its ministry.

The House of Peace has taught me how to be a leader

and how to handle myself when dealing with every day problems.

For this, I am very thankful.
