The House of Peace Teen Leaders

talk about

the Teen Scholarship Program

House of Peace Teen LeaderBeing a Teen Leader in the House of Peace has helped in many ways. First of all, I am a Teen Leader Scholar.

That means I get scholarship assistance to pay for my education at Marquette University High School. So it helps my tuition payments. Without this financial assistance, I might not be able to attend Marquette High School.  Second, the program teaches me. I have learned how to solve conflicts without resorting to violence. I know how to look for solutions that will be acceptable.  Finally, I am able to teach others.

With the “Hope Is Something You Do” workshop, I can show others how to solve conflicts peacefully. We let out extra creative energy doing skits and activities so the learning is enjoyable to the middle school participants.

House of Peace Teen LeaderI have been at the House of Peace for three years. It has been a fun and wonderful place to be.

There is never a dull moment.

I have made so many friends here.  Most of all, I have learned a lot. For example, I have better skills for dealing with problems. Instead of yelling or giving up,

I know how to sit down and talk in a calm and helpful manner.

That way, problems can be solved fairly so everyone feels as if they achieved what they wanted. And thanks to the scholarship I receive from the House of Peace, I can attend Pius High School. I love it there and would hate to leave.

House of Peace Teen LeaderThe House of Peace has greatly affected my life. I love Dominican High School and without my House of Peace scholarship, I probably wouldn’t be able to go there. And because I am a Teen Leader, I bring the message of peace to other young people with programs such as “Hope is Something You Do” and “Pebbles of Peace Outweighing Boulders of Violence.”

And most of all, because of the House of Peace, I have had the opportunity to form great relationships with the other Teen Leaders here, and that is something I will never forget. These are the reasons I love the House of Peace.

House of Peace Teen LeaderIn the short time that I've been at the House of Peace, it has affected my life in many ways.

I get a sense of fulfillment, doing the "Hope Is Something You Do" workshops, knowing that we helped someone else to effectively solve their conflicts. Not only have the workshop participants learned, but I too have learned alternative ways to solving conflicts, without resorting to violence.  Because of the House of Peace, I have earned a scholarship, which helps my family pay for high school tuition at Divine Savior Holy Angels.

Without that scholarship, paying for my tuition would be difficult. That is why I'm glad and grateful

to be a teen scholar at the House of Peace.
