Teen Leader Article Honors Lisa
Steven B., a Teen Leader at the House of Peace, attends The Marquette University High School. He was given an assignment in his expository writing class to interview a person, and create a portrait of that person by fusing together the elements from the interview questions and other information. Steven chose to write about Dr. Lisa-Marie Calderone-Stewart.
Arthur, one of our House of Peace Teen Leaders, won the youth “Inspire by Example” award, from the Volunteer Center of Greater Milwaukee, a service of the Non Profit Center. He and five adults were given awards and asked to make a few comments.
Arthur dazzled us by saying he found it odd that people could get awards just from “helping people,” something that everyone is supposed to always do anyway. He also said he didn’t think he had done anything special to deserve such an award. He thanked everyone and then challenged everyone to “perk up Milwaukee” (the theme of the luncheon – they even gave away coffee!) by going out to volunteer and serve others.

Arthur, you do inspire us by your example … and you perk us up by what you say and do!
From Sidney, Nebraska:
"Last night we used your session from FaithWorks for jr high on the liturgical year. Instead of using the worksheets to fill in seasons and special days I laid out the lines on the floor with masking tape and they laid signs with the names in the right places. That afternoon I came across some costumes we had used years ago for Godspell, simple outfits that went over their heads, many colors. I had kids put them on, and then decide which colors were used in the church year. When they picked them out, those who wore them sat by the appropriate sign."
"We had a lot of fun with this session, great discussion and prayer. "
Dr. Calderone-Stewart has authored 20 books and more than 50 articles.
