Home Page > A New Tomorrow

The staff of The Leadership Center gathered on 1 June 2010 to celebrate the passing of the mission of Tomorrow’s Present from Dr. Lisa-Marie Calderone-Stewart to Sean Lansing.

Dr. Peter Holbrook, the executive director of the Leadership Center gave a brief history of Tomorrow’s Present and the partnership between House of Peace and Cardinal Stritch University.

Then Dr. Lisa spoke about her research and her work with teenagers, her gratitude to both House of Peace and The Leadership Center, and her delight that Sean Lansing had agreed to become the new director of Tomorrow’s Present, effective 1 August 2010.

She introduced Sean to the group and gave him a very special gift: the Vatican II Coin given to her by Bishop Ken Untener, who was bishop of Saginaw, MI from 1980-2004. Bishop Ken had explained that these coins were given to the bishops who attended Vatican II, and he had received this coin from Cardinal John Dearden of Detroit. Bishop Ken told her he was giving her this coin because of all the people he had ever known, Lisa had the most creative way of passing on the spirit of Vatican II.

Lisa said she thinks the same of Sean: he also has a very creative way of passing on the spirit of Vatican II… and so she therefore knows that Tomorrow’s Present is in very good hands!

Then Sean spoke about his love for central city youth, his early dreams of wiping out poverty, and his excitement about working together and forming local partnerships with people such as the Boys and Girls Club, Safe and Sound, Casa Romero, the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and lots of schools and congregations who have similar goals and do similar work.
